The release for the event states participants will be given one 300 lb block of ice with which to create their masterpiece. Each ice block will be sponsored by a Bloor-Yorkville business –Saturday, February 24 ● 12 noon – 8 pm & Sunday, February 25 ● 12 noon – 5 pm Village of Yorkville Park – Near Cumberland & Bellair Sts.
This year’s theme is “MEDIEVAL TIMES”, transforming the festival into a magical display of ice, sculpted into magnificent sculptures inspired by the chivalry and rivalry in celebration of the middle ages. The Main Ice Exhibit in the park will include an 11th Century-Styled Castle with Knights on Guard. There will be a photo opportunity area with a majestic Throne for Two in the center of the park.
Manny Lezama was born in Mexico City, and grew up in Brooklyn. From a young age, Manny showed an interest in cooking, which led him to secure a degree from the Culinary Institute of America. After graduation, Manny landed high profile positions at Rich Products, as GM of Florida restaurant operations, which eventually brought him to the World Headquarters in Buffalo, New York. Here he organized elegant events for the Rich family where the guest list included former United States Presidents.
Lezama operated two successful restaurants in Florida. He has also worked for both Sodexo and Chartwells, leaders in higher education food service.
In 2001 Manny joined the National Ice Carving Association, and has participated in many competitions across the US and Canada. One of Lezama’s prized creations was an ice sculpture of the Brooklyn Bridge, created as a raw seafood bar from 3,000 pounds of ice for the 80th birthday party of WNY hospitality icon Russell Salvatore.
